Translating Borges’ First Facebook Post

Written by JoJo Phillips Today, I am sitting on a stool in a long, grey hallway, looking at the portraits on the walls. The one in front of me is of a sad, old man named Borges. He is on the wall, like a fish, and looks down at me, also Borges. All around us,…

Hothouse is accepting website submissions!!!! ALL MAJORS WELCOME! We accept anything from personal essays, literary criticisms, reviews/recommendations, to films and books and more! Send a pitch of ~100 words to our email uthothouse.editor@gmail.com 📓 We can’t wait to see what you have to share!
Happy Black History Month! What are some of your favorite pieces by Black authors? Our editorial staff’s favorite authors include Zadie Smith, Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, and Zora Neale Hurston.
Next up in our spotlight series is another member of our editorial board: meet Kylie! She is a second-year English major finishing up her Core Texts and Ideas certificate while possibly adding an Elements of Computing certificate. Outside of academics, Kylie is an ardent supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and feels strongly that Macklemore should drop a Christmas album. Kylie started with Hothouse as a member of the nonfiction board during the 2017-2018 school year, before working her way up to Nonfiction Board and Website Editor in the 2018-2019 school year. She assisted former website editor Eleni Theodoropoulou last semester as they worked with our fantastic website staff to create content for the Hothouse website. With Eleni newly graduated, Kylie is excited to continue the great work Eleni and she began, while also adding her own spice to the metaphorical pot pie. We are so lucky to have Kylie on our team!
Only 4 days left to submit your work to be featured in our annual journal! You don’t want to miss out on #hothouse11
