Jana hopes this message finds you well! If she’s not wandering around the Six Pack or drinking overpriced mocha lattes in the CMA lobby, she’s probably in bed reading or watching TV and calling it “research.” A subpar artist, poet, and musician, Jana hopes to be a step-above-decent EiC for Hothouse this year. A piece of writing she wishes she wrote is Wild Geese by Mary Oliver, and she wants to help writers publish works that feel just as honest, tender, and quietly world-altering. Everything Jana does—she likes to think—she does with love.

Hey darlin’s, I’m siked to be this years managing editor. I found Hothouse last year and loved submerse myself into the world that is publishing literature, and it has been one of the best experiences I could have asked for. In my free time(other than reading and writing obviously)I can be found watching crime documentaries while working on a craft or baking. Can’t wait to work with everyone this year.

POETRY EDITOR

Avery Connett

She is a fourth-year in the English honors and Poetry honors certificate program. She loves dirt. She hates losing things. Her favorite artist is Susuma Yokota. Avery is a ceramics artist in her second life. Her favorite song is “Bitch” by Allie X. She thinks Emily Dickinson’s approach to poetry was correct and defers to this assertion: “If I feel physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry. Is there any other way?” Avery is very excited to read for UT’s poetry section in Hothouse this year. She hopes to one day learn how to write a poem.

Aidan Springer is a fourth year English, Rhetoric, and Creative Writing student. He loves any kind of story that ends with a heavy sigh. When he’s not wandering or locked in the stacks, he’s talking to friends about the thoughts of trees, learning to cook, or finally sitting down to paint.
