Hello there! So glad you found us!

If you are an English major or Creative Writing Certificate student at the University of Texas at Austin, you are eligible to apply for a position on Hothouse‘s 2019–2020 staff.

Here is an interest form to drop your email if you would like to be notified when the 2019–2020 staff applications go live.

For more information on being a Hothouse staff member, read below.

Note: All staffers except for the Managing Editor are allowed to submit work to Hothouse due to our blind submission process. Poetry/Fiction/Nonfiction Editors will not be allowed to submit to their own section but may submit to other sections.

Poetry/Fiction/Nonfiction Board Members:
Board members work as a team to read and sort through all submissions for their section of the journal. At the start of the spring semester, each board will collaborate to make selections for publication and will attend board meetings.
Individual board meeting attendance is mandatory. In the final stretch before publication, all staff members will be asked to assist in proofreading the entire journal before it heads to the printers.
Marketing Team:
The Marketing/Design Team will assist the Editors with all of Hothouse’s social and promotional needs.
Responsibilities will include distributing promotional materials, creating social media content, contributing to event planning/preparation, and expediting all marketing activities. Additional responsibilities will include planning social events for the Hothouse staff and encouraging community among staff members.

Note: marketing staff are encouraged to be members of another board.
Website Team:
The website team is a relatively new addition to Hothouse’s staff. The website staff is dedicated entirely to maintaining Hothouse’s website in terms of content and quality of content. Required of the website staff are a set number of articles throughout the semester, which will be carefully edited and curated in a peer-editing process with the website editor. This is a wonderful chance to expand writing portfolios and resumes.

Note: website staff are encouraged to be members of another board.
